10th December Advent Devotion – The comfort of God that moves mountains
Hello,
My relationship with God began more than 33 years ago yet it has taken many of them to realise and understand I could come to my Father God for comfort. He has always been faithful to give comfort, yet somehow I didn’t know I could ask, come into His presence and receive comfort from Him. The journey is one where I allow Jesus to walk with me in the contours of my heart and surrender my mountains of pride, my valleys of shame until I come to an openness and vulnerability to know what I feel, to name and own my feeling and give my deepest broken heart to Jesus in trust that He makes me safe.
Think about a child who is upset or hurt; there is no possibility for comfort until they feel safe enough to be held, only then can comfort flow.

Luke describes to us the ministry of John The Baptist, preparing the way for Jesus, which was also prophesied by Isaiah more than 400 years earlier.
Isaiah 40v3-5
“A voice of one calling in the wilderness,
Prepare the way for the Lord
make straight paths for him.
Every valley shall be filled in,
every mountain and hill made low.
The crooked roads shall become straight and the rough ways smooth.
And all people will see God’s salvation.
But what’s the heart, the passion the meaning of this work?
Father God himself speaks through Isaiah to the exiled destitute Jews who had even been stripped of their identity as his children.
Isaiah 40v1
“Comfort, Comfort my people,
Speak tenderly to Jerusalem…”
What matters to Father above all, is that we know His Comfort and hear the tenderness in his voice.
Father God reaches out to us again, this time through His only Son, Jesus. Jesus is one with the Father and His Salvation plan.
He is born as a human, to show us the Father and bring us to His heart.
There is nothing that you or I can do to make him love us any more or any less.
- How much do you know of Father’s comfort?
- What are your valley’s?
- What are your mountains?
- Is there particular pain that you know needs to be comforted?
Father is safe.
Take a step of entrusting yourself to him today.
Kirby Kable invites us to come to the waters to drink, to the table to feast and to those who are weary come receive. Don’t miss this opportunity to taste and see his comfort today.
