6th December Advent Devotion – Soaking in Jesus Living Word
Hello,
John’s gospel introduces Jesus to us as living word. The writer to the Hebrews describes the way he interacts with our hearts as living word.
Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.
I always read his voice aloud, starting a conversation together. As I read the word, I’m asking who is here? What is happening? I see it as meeting with God and his people, and I get to join in! So join with me in today’s reading Psalm 19 and start your own conversation with David and The Lord.
I love the stillness and darkness of these advent mornings, sitting in the lights of the Christmas tree.
Psalm 19:8 says “The precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart.
The commands of the Lord are radiant, giving light to the eyes.”
How are we filled with joy? His teachings make us joyful!
They also give light to our eyes. Where do you need more light to see?
A relationship? wisdom for a work situation? Jesus is our source of joy, of light, living word. Bring your need for light to him and ask him what He sees.
A key to our waiting is soaking in Him, I find worship so helpful for this.
Advent is a busy time, yet in the midst the voice of Jesus is calling, urging us to keep close to his Heart. He longs to meet with us, to give us wisdom & understanding for those things that concern us. As we soak, he prepares our hearts, scripture even says he fills our hearts with his desires!
The word ‘wait’ in Hebrew can have another meaning – entwined – As we wait, we are being entwined with Him, How beautiful and awesome that is!
Lord I want to be entwined with you in every strand of my being, to stand in the darkness; waiting, eager and filled with joy.
Melissa Helser sings Come Close. Its a beautiful worship song to soak to. She asks the Lord to kiss her eyes so she can see and confesses her need of Father’s love. Give yourself a gift and soak in Him with Melissa today.
