Reflections

Mindfulness today is recognised for its ability to preserve and restore mental health.  This practice is named in the Bible as “Selah” a Hebrew word meaning to pause in His Presence and reflect.”   Beauty in creation often draws us into such moments.

Through this ancient art we can experience stillness, silence, gratitude, curiosity, beauty, wonder and more.  As we reflect, we become aware of ourselves, our thoughts and feelings.  We reconnect with heart and soul.   In the midst of life, we are invited into a rhythm to bring us back to stillness and receiving, where we can experience God whose Presence is a place to gain perspective, strength and peace even in the centre of a storm.

This space hosts some of my reflections, in particular a series I kept throughout Advent.  It is my hope to add more, to share my own journey and encourage you in yours.

Rejoice; Shout for joy

By admin | November 29, 2017

A carpet of crocus. “The Desert and the parched land will be glad. The wilderness will rejoice and blossom. Like the crocus is will burst into bloom. It will rejoice greatly and shout for joy.” Isaiah 35:1-2. Keep going.  Keep believing.  Keep hoping.  Keep trusting.  Keep loving.  Keep standing in the one who is faithful.…

God watches over His word to perform it

By admin | November 29, 2017

Rejoicing as an overcomer. A study of a Catkin or lambs tail as we called them in watercolour with ink and wax crayon. There are times when the gifts God hid in us have to be fought for so that we become all He has formed and made. Spring reminds us that God watches over…

Joy of a spring evening walk. Psalm 103:1-5 O my soul, come, praise the Eternal with all that is in me—body, emotions, mind, and will—every part of who I am— praise His holy name. O my soul, come, praise the Eternal; sing a song from a grateful heart; sing and never forget all the good…

Sustained; wherever you are

Isaiah 49:9-10 The Voice  Through you, My gift to the people, I will declare to the prisoners, “Come out. Now you are free” To those who are held in darkness, “Come out into the light.” They will find sustenance wherever they are— Along the roads or in the open hills— with peace of mind, in…

Ancestors of the future

By admin | November 29, 2017

From sovereign foundations the story of life is told. Through seasons, storms and stillness the story unfolds and wisdom is offered through each experience. In the timeline of our lives significant experiences and events shape and form us. As we respond to God’s love, he leads us into knowing him, fullness and ultimately like these…

Daring to be vulnerable

By admin | November 29, 2017

My tulip. Fully open, it’s beauty reflects the glory of its creator. Dare we make this journey into vulnerability? Colour, beauty giving, joy,  to the one who made us simply to know him.

Flowers do not toil

By admin | November 29, 2017

Celebrating the gifts of our generous creator “Consider how the flowers grow.  They do not labour or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendour was dressed like one of these.  If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and tomorrow is thrown into…

Christ in you, the hope of Glory

Reflecting on God who is infinite and personal. 1 Tim 1:17 “Now to the King eternal immortal invisible the only God be honour and glory for ever and ever Amen. One will always be greater than the other either God or the circumstances. We can focus on issues until they become overwhelmingly great in our…

The Eternal one, high in our hearts

By admin | November 29, 2017

An evening walk watching the sun set. “At every time and in every place, from the moment the sun rises to the moment the sun sets – may the name of the eternal be high in the hearts of his people” Ps 113:3. This is our call, who or what is high in your heart…
