Reflections
Mindfulness today is recognised for its ability to preserve and restore mental health. This practice is named in the Bible as “Selah” a Hebrew word meaning to pause in His Presence and reflect.” Beauty in creation often draws us into such moments.
Through this ancient art we can experience stillness, silence, gratitude, curiosity, beauty, wonder and more. As we reflect, we become aware of ourselves, our thoughts and feelings. We reconnect with heart and soul. In the midst of life, we are invited into a rhythm to bring us back to stillness and receiving, where we can experience God whose Presence is a place to gain perspective, strength and peace even in the centre of a storm.
This space hosts some of my reflections, in particular a series I kept throughout Advent. It is my hope to add more, to share my own journey and encourage you in yours.
Refreshed in beauty
So refreshed in beauty. “It’s so enjoyable to come before you with uncontainable praises spilling from our hearts! How we love to sing our praises over and over to you, to the matchless God, high and exalted over all!” Psalm 92:1 Excerpt From: Simmons, Brian. “Psalms Poetry on Fire and Proverbs Wisdom
If shoes could talk
I love to walk. My Birkenstocks have been faithful servants over many kilometres and have almost reached their end, one more outing to Kenya in January, where the African soil will finish them. They carry memories of huge heart journeys, many hours spent in companionship with Paul, friends and family. Many hours spent with God,…
Who paints the skies?
Such beauty in our sunset walk last night. Jesus spoke of his identity in his I Am statements, “I AM the light of the world.” Where would we be without light. These images remind me of a song, Who paints the skies into glorious day, only the splendour of Jesus. Inspired by God as creator and…
His life light shines
I walked to the swimming pool and dawn was breaking and as I passed by the wall with all the leaves piled up they caught my attention. I loved the way the leaves shone like gold in the light. As I passed by again at the end of the week, Galatians 2:20 came to mind.…
Selah
Selah – meaning ‘to pause in His Presence’ or ‘pause and reflect’ I love this simple study of Selah by Rev Greg Smith speaking of the necessity of silence in our lives. it reflects my own experience and testimony, and has become one of the rhythms of my relationship with God. In Psalm 46, the…
Tales of a mustard seed – meeting God in Kibera Slum Kenya
Hello, Another ‘mustard seed’ assignment in January was a missions trip to visit and serve alongside Pastor Chris and his wife Joanna in Kibera Slum, Kenya. It was my first time in Africa and the fulfilment of God’s word to me in 1985! The seed for Kibera was planted in March 2011 when I saw a…
Tales of a mustard seed – taking our place as activators in The Kingdom of God
Hello, Where did January go?! It was full, a precious tapestry of rich colour as Father shared his heart with me in deeply tender ways through a missions trip to Kibera Slum in Kenya and through the death of my friend Helen. I’m still processing these experiences and hope to blog about both very soon, today…

Hello, As I enter into a New Year, this is my prayer. May you know you are secure, wrapped around in God’s light, love and peace as you walk each day throughout 2017. What hopes and dreams are stored in your heart? Listen to the still smallVoice within. What do you hear. 2017 will be a…
Releasing hope in times of transition – Blessed are you who Believe
Hello, I wrote this blog out of the experience of a major transition in our lives. When we speak out testimony, it releases faith to those who hear for God to do the same in their lives. My prayer for each one who reads this is that you will be filled with the power of…
Turn to me and be safe.
Hello, When we think about ‘nurture’ we most often think about caring for a baby or a small child, yet the truth is all growth comes because there has been some kind of nurture and that continues throughout our lives. As adults we often connect with nurture in the garden, but when did you last…
